Vasco Trancoso

Born in Lisbon but since 1983 Vasco Trancoso lives in the city of Caldas da Rainha - Portugal. A gastroenterologist that, after retirement, resumed an old passion asleep: Photography. After a first moment with contemplative images of landscapes decided, at the end of 2016, to begin making photography in public places. A deliberate and decisive moment. An intentional and planned choice of a new way of life. Fascinated by the unpredictability follows a daily routine where photographs only for his own pleasure. A healthy and salvific obsession that leads him to discovers daily miracles that appear as fragments of a parallel dimension where the ordinary and the banal after all can be extraordinary He photographed details of the city that inhabits as a first project. It was a laborious task because on the streets of a small town (about 30,000 inhabitants) extraordinary situations are rarer than in big cities. In 2014-2015, 95% of his photos were in B & W. In 2016-2017, his way of seeing / "voice" changed and his work became in "colours." There is no messages but just a way of looking where visual pleasure and color composition are the most important. He is obsessed with the pursuit of magic in the urban kaleidoscope where fragments of colors / light emerge between dark silhouettes and deep shadows.
