Fire
These photos were taken during the fire season in Rancho Cucamonga, Ca. I traveled from Los Angeles to visit the people being affected by this disaster and I arrived just before the city blocked off all of the streets. I was able to meet people and hear their stories before even picking up the camera. I probably could have captured a lot more of this event but it did not seem right to document the suffering before extending a helping hand or at least a sympathetic ear. I am from the East Coast of the United States and was not used to this kind of natural disaster, but I quickly learned how devastating fires can be. In the portrait of the woman looking off into the distance, she was watching her home getting engulfed and barely realized that I was standing there and having a conversation with her.
