Far from God and Men
These photographs were taken in Dhanushkodi, an abandoned town
on the tip of Pamban Island, just eighteen miles from Sri Lanka. The
town was destroyed in the nineteen-sixties by a cyclone and has
remained inhabited in the aftermath with the exception of a small
number of fishermen.
Surrounded by the silence of the Indian Ocean and lashed by the
winds, Dhanushkodi seems to be stuck in an ancient and forgotten
dream, where men and women live as centuries have never passed.
Far from the noise and the crowds of the indian cities, the Ghost Town
is shrouded by a powerful and sacred sense of mistery.
Walking through his ruins, slowly eaten by the lone and salty sands,
and wandering around his desolated beaches, I tasted the feeling of
mankind's fragility and impotence towards nature.
