East West Spill
Airports leak light. The areas that surround them are inadvertently, beautifully, lit by them.
Transforming these often industrial spaces, while the airports activity leaves light scars on the night sky.
East West Spill, an ongoing project, looking at the urban landscape of the industrial fringe that often immediately surrounds a modern airport. These spaces are lit at night by the light spill from the airport
and are transformed from the busy places they are in the day to places of quiet illumination.
Using only a medium format Holga and, often, out of date film allows the potential for chance imperfections, light leaks and vignetting. These idiosyncrasies in many ways help enhance and soften the harshness
of the landscape.
