Borderland
In June of 2018, C M Hutchinson set out on an exploratory mission to travel the entire length of the U.S. - Mexico border via car. Beginning in Brownsville, on the coast of Texas, and following the southernmost routes along the border to its end in San Ysidro, California where the barrier fence runs into the Pacific Ocean, he sought greater understanding of this often discussed region of the United States. The photographic series that arose from this journey seeks to explore the visual and social landscape of the borderlands through a variety of imaging formats. The entirety of the project consists of roughly seventy images of border barrier, southern highways, and border crossings as the divide cuts across a wide range of cultures, ecosystems, and landscapes.
