Vesuvio, 11 luglio 2017
In July 2017, the National park of Vesuvius was destroyed by numerous fires. More than 2700 hectares of pine forests were lost, 50 millions bees died. I grew up with my family in those pine forests for twenty five years, the Vesuvius was a presence for me. Ten years ago I left my family home and I moved to Naples. This distance had changed my relationship with the volcano, it was too far to be a presence in my life, it became landscape. When I saw that it was burning, I was on my rooftop, there were fires everywhere in eight different places at least. During the night I couldn’t sleep, in that moment the Vesuvius stopped being landscape and it awakened as an interior presence within me. The day after I decided to go to help firemen to stop the fires. When fires were extinguished I began to take pictures, it was my way to take care of Vesuvius and me.
