The story of Tom & Thomas
“Be a man”. They told me “Don’t soften your eyes Higher your voice Your smile is too delicate”. “But I am a man.” I told them I am a man with his words I am the man who took care of his mother when the true man wasn’t around. I am the man who lived and worked at a boat for years to be able to be the man they told me to be. I am a provider of love I am a leader of my emotions, a protector of my feelings I am masculine in my verdicts I am violent in my existence I am loud for my thoughts I am strong in my heart I am Tom. 23 years old. IRELAND.” The story of “Tom & Thomas” is a series of photography based on a young couple experiencing love in a world shaped with disgrace. It is common the misperception of homosexuality with disturbance, feminine with ill-mannered, different with wrong, and uniqueness with abnormal. In this collection, I would like to illustrate that love is love, to one’s self and to others, acceptance is fundamental and truth is just a capture away.
