Mountain people of Java
The captivating beauty of the volcanic island of Java, Indonesia was a good place to continue my lifelong obsession with photography and travel. From the lush green tea plantations, rice fields and pine tree forests of the West, to the stunning waterfalls, majestic mountains and active volcanoes of the East, Java reminded me that the beauty of the scenery is a beauty seen within the people which is the island’s true wealth.
Men, carrying hardened yellow sulphur up a steepy rocky path around ten times a day, local lady stopping for a picture while the rest of the women are cheering for an ongoing photo shoot. Happy mountain trolley riders, ready to take a tourist up to high crater and kids playing around with no electronic devices surrounded by lush jungle. As a community they were poor and had very little, yet they where the richest people I have ever met.
