Like Ulysses in the Odyssey, I undertake the adventure of returning home; Doing this work is an intimate fact that goes through the entire experience of my life. Whoever has had to leave home, before or after, has been touched.
Each of the houses in which I have lived and now I visit again is a crossroads between a distance and a closeness, an argument of fragments detained in the present being part of the past. It is a constant search for roots, to keep a memory alive. Memory as a means to unearth the distant secrets of the past, rescue them from the darkness and reveal them in the present.
Unamuno wrote that «The mind seeks the dead because the living escapes it; he wants to set the fugitive current in icebergs, he wants to fix it. To analyze a body, it must be reduced or destroyed. To understand something you have to kill it, tight it in the mind ». And in that consisted, precisely, the tragic obsession that became a failure: the aspiration to want to record everything, nail and dissect. Where there is no vestige available for occasional enjoyment, the sensation of loss and the absence of identity intensifies.
